For this motor, high pressure oil cause the formation of torque on the cylinder body via the force on the swash plate imposed through plunger movement, making the output shaft to output torque and speed. Plunger type hydraulic motor is characterized by simple structure, small radial size, small inertia of rotation, high speed and easy variables. It can rotate in both directions by changing the oil supply direction, and it can be changed to variable displacement motor by changing the swash plate angle and displacement. This kind of motors are popular in hydraulic drive systems of high speed and large torque.
